Facilitated Stretching for the Lower Extremity
Monday, May 14th, 2012 6-9 pm
75% hands-on
Attendees will need to bring linens
3 contact hours/ 3 CEUs
Course Description:
Learn assisted and unassisted stretching techniques to improve range-of-motion and function of the hip, knee, ankle, and foot.
Many people experience discomfort or pain in the lower extremity because of postural stress, job-related activities, or trauma. Stretching the muscles in this region can provide great relief from tightness and pain and help restore normal range-of-motion and pain-free function.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this seminar, participants will:
1. Understand the theoretical basis and principles underlying the development and use of facilitated stretching.
2. Be able to demonstrate effective facilitated stretches for the lower extremity.
3. Be able to demonstrate partner-stretching techniques to use with clients and self-stretching techniques to teach them to use at home.
4. Understand safety factors in the use of facilitated stretches.
5. Be able to demonstrate proper biomechanics for the practitioner while using these stretches.

Freeing the Shoulder v.3.0
Monday, July 23rd, 2012 6-9 pm
Presented by Bob McAtee
75% hands-on
Participants need linens, lubricants, and the usual gear.
Please dress to allow access to the shoulder girdle for the hands-on portion of the class.
3 contact hours/ 3 CEUs
Course Description:
This interactive applied anatomy seminar uses visual and kinesthetic aids with practical palpation exercises, to bring shoulder anatomy to life and includes demonstration and practice of therapeutic interventions (pin and stretch, transverse friction, and facilitated stretching) to access and release the soft tissues of the shoulder girdle, allowing for more freedom of movement around the joint. We’ll explore the role of the rhomboids, serratus anterior, pectoralis minor, latissimus dorsi, and the four rotator cuff muscles in the health, function and mobility of the shoulder.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. List at least 14 muscles that attach to the scapula.
2. Palpate the major muscle groups of the shoulder.
3. Demonstrate a 7-step protocol designed to enhance freedom of movement around the shoulder girdle.
4. Perform a self-care program to stretch and strengthen their own shoulder girdles.
5. Return to their practices confident and capable of integrating these techniques into their work.
Alleviating Piriformis Syndrome v.3.0
Monday, October 29th, 2012 6-9 pm

Course Description:
This course is designed to demonstrate an array of soft tissue techniques for one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints presented by clients.
We’ll discuss the causes and prevention of piriformis syndrome, review and palpate the relevant anatomy, learn basic assessment tests, and practice hands-on techniques that include transverse friction, pin and stretch techniques, and isolytic contractions.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the seminar, the participant will be able to:
1. Discuss the causes and prevention of piriformis syndrome.
2. Identify the relevant bony and soft-tissue structures.
3. Demonstrate appropriate assessment techniques to determine the proper therapeutic intervention.
4. Demonstrate transverse friction techniques, pin-and-stretch techniques, and isolytic contractions.
