Presidents Message Thank you for your interest in the Colorado Institute of Massage Therapy. It is truly one of the most exiting times in our history to begin a career in massage therapy. I have seen the field grow to respectful new heights since my career as a massage therapy professional began in 1990. My initial interest in massage therapy began in 1988 as I was training for running and cycling races in the Pikes Peak region. Shortly thereafter, I entered into the program at this massage school. Upon graduation I opened a one room office in downtown Colorado Springs and developed my own practice appropriately named "Pikes Peak Massage Therapy". Soon my practice grew to a five room clinic with eight therapists and massage contracts with the Cheyenne Mountain Conference Resort, the Country Club of Colorado, and Kissing Camels Country Club. Late in 1992, I began my teaching career here at the school. In 1998 I became the Director and just one year later I became the new owner of the Colorado Institute of Massage Therapy - completing the cycle of student to owner. My passion initially was in the field of sports massage, though eventually I diversified my practice to working with whomever God led to my massage table. My clients include senior citizens, professional businessmen, businesswomen, moms, pregnant women and children. I have also treated athletes of all ages and abilities, amateur and professional alike. I have treated clients with chronic disorders such as diabetes, neck and back pain, headaches, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, and paralysis. What a blessing it is for us to be trusted by those in physical or emotional pain and trauma. It is quite apparent how beneficial massage therapy was in facilitating their healing. What was surprising to me is how much satisfaction and love I receive back from them. Skilled Massage Therapists trained in medical and injury rehabilitiation massage, such as CIMT graduates, can fulfill the growing needs of all three areas of health care: relaxation (stress relief), injury rehabilitation and on-going maintenance (preventative) care. Many of our graduates have their own successful clinics because of their recognized ability to help people manage their health care needs. CIMT is honored to be one of only seven schools in the United States to include the International Academy of Neuromuscular Therapies Certification series in their training program. Currently, CIMT is affiliated with the Centura health Care System, the largest health care system in Colorado Springs, where students have the opportunity to fulfill their community service hours, students have the opportunity to do a clinical internship with Pikes Peak Hospice, CIMT, Fort Carson elite athletes programs. At CIMT, we accept the responsibility to thoroughly prepare and educate our students for careers as competent massage therapists. What really excites us is getting to know each student personally. Our greatest joy is to be involved in the students' lives, to serve them, love them, laugh with them, and guide them on their individual paths. Our goal is to facilitate the student's' educational process, at the same time watching them grow, graduate, and fulfill their dreams in this exciting and rewarding medical health care field.
